Description
This image captures a Dark Eyed Junco foraging for seeds in the snow. The little juncos have a bit of a symbiotic relationship with the gold finches we feed in the winter. As the finches drop seeds from the finch sock in the tree above the juncos swoop in and pick up the scraps. On this particular morning we’d had so much show that I’d piled a large berm on the edge of the patio which made it easy to sit in a chair and shoot almost eye level with the energetic little critters.
I rather liked the minimalistic feel of this capture with the lone bird surrounded by snow.

All I know, Mike, is that was the bird book I had stated it was a hooded junco when I looked it up. I live in Minnesota so we see them (Junco's) here all the time.

Is that a dark eyed Junco or a black hooded Junco, Mike? In any case, it is a cute picture!
Mike Lee replied:
Thank you, Susan! I've never heard of a Black Hooded Junco and neither has Google...lol. Some folks also call them Oregon Juncos (I assume Oregonians) so perhaps Black Hooded is a local name too. They are pretty wide spread.
