Description
Lake Britton is in Shasta County, California, USA very near the McCarthur-Burney Falls State Park. It is popular among anglers targeting trout, bass, and crappie and provides habitat for a great deal of wildlife to include nesting habitat for eagles and osprey. It is fed by The Pit River, Hat, Creek, Burney Creek, and Clark Creek. The Pit 3 Dam, pictured here in monochrome infrared, is what holds the entire 42000 acre feet of it back since its completion in 1925. Pit 3 is the 3rd and largest of 7 dams on the Pit River between Fall River and Lake Shasta. The Pit River Project, as itβs known, generates about 2.6 million kilowatt hours (kwh) of electricity per year; a million more kwh if factoring in the plants on the tributaries (Hat 1 and Hat 2 on Hat Creek are two Iβm familiar with).
The small bit of trail visible in the right of the frame on the far side of the dam is the Pacific Crest Trail which goes all the way from Mexico to Canada, a total of 2653 miles. Given the 35 or so Iβve done in my 56 years on Earth, Iβm on pace to do it all somewhere around the 31st century AD.

A fascinating image, Mike - infrared really brings out the details.
