Description
Sugru Reservoir (generally misspelled on maps as “Shugru”) sits across the road from my local landfill near Janesville California, USA. It was created in the early 20th century by James Sugru when he dammed up some small streams that run off near-by Bass Hill to facilitate irrigating the family farm. Today, it is part of a state wildlife area and provides water and habitat for mule deer, assorted water fowl, and, yes, “dump chickens” (AKA gulls from across the road).
In this image, I like the way the little clumps of grass give a bit of foreground interest (whether or not the lake is frozen over as it can be at times) in front of Thompson Peak in the background. On this evening there was just enough high haze in the sky to make some nice tones both above and reflected in the water below.
I’ve gotten a couple pretty photos here over the years and its location so close to about the ugliest type of place one would try to avoid seeing (or being downwind of) just goes to show that beauty is everywhere if we just look!
