Description
This image was captured in the northern California high desert at dawn on a very cold February morning. Note that the puddle in the road is solid ice. Storm clouds were blowing in and creating a very moody scene around this old cottonwood tree I’ve seen from a nearby paved road several times in the past. The tree sits next to a small marshy pond that I can only assume is fed by a spring and is the reason this tree has been able to grow so large in such an arid, mostly desolate place. It was wonderful to stand there for a few moments and take in the dramatic scene. If this image had sound, you’d hear two separate packs of coyotes howling at each other across the desert. At least I wasn’t totally alone!

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
