Description
This image captures a vibrant early March sunset on Hog Flat Reservoir in Lassen County, California, USA.
The newly formed Susan River Irrigation district formed the reservoir in the late 19th century when levees were built around a large meadow to capture spring runoff.

In early March of 2021, when this image was captured, northern California was experiencing drought conditions and this area, which sits at near 6000 feet elevation hadn’t seen much snowfall. The limited amount of snow that was present had packed significantly, making it very reflective of the gorgeous sunset light. I tried to frame the image so the sparse row of pines leads the eye to the fiery sky.
