Description
This image captures several horses near a wind driven pump at The Dreamcatcher wild horse sanctuary in Lassen County California, USA. According to the nice lady who runs the sanctuary when she saw my social media post these animals were originally part of the famous Gila Herd from Arizona and were temporarily in this field to keep them safe from wildfires that were still ravaging the region when this shot was captured. As the horses have been rounded up before and have apparently become somewhat accustomed to closer approaches by humans, they weren’t quite as skittish of my presence as others I’ve seen around the area. They even curiously approached several feet toward me when they saw me standing at the fence line. They did still maintain a good distance though.
As to the buzzard who decided to sit on the windmill blades while I was shooting, well, I don’t know much about it, other than it’s a turkey vulture.
