Manly Beacon is named for William L. Manly, a pioneer known for rescuing ill-fated 49er’s from the extreme perils of Death Valley. It is quite a prominent formation, especially when viewed from below in Golden Canyon. On this January day it was bathed in mid-day light that was somewhat diffused by some high clouds, softening what would otherwise have been excessively harsh light.

A hike through Golden Canyon is certainly a great opportunity to be awestruck! Around every bend of this wonderful trail is a new wonder to behold.
