Description
Red Cathedral is one of the most striking formations along the Golden Canyon trail in Death Valley National Park. Its deep red tones stand in dramatic contrast to the surrounding lighter-colored badlands, making it an unforgettable sight for hikers and photographers alike.
On this mid-January day, my wife and I hiked through the canyon and ascended as far as the trail allowed toward this incredible rock face. One of the unique challenges of photographing this area is the canyon’s narrowness—its towering walls mean that much of it rarely receives the coveted golden light of sunrise or sunset. Fortunately, on this particular afternoon, the high clouds helped diffuse the midday sun, creating softer lighting conditions that enhanced the natural textures and colors of the scene.
