Description
The Smoke Creek Desert in northeastern California and northwestern Nevada can be a barren landscape. However, after a nice wet winter it can be incredibly beautiful in spring. On this particular mid-May morning I was struck by the stunning golden field of flowers (I believe them to be some sort of balsamroot but they lack the foliage of the arrow leaf balsamroot that is very common in this part of the country). I liked the way the game/livestock trail here formed a nice “leading line” toward the Skedaddle Mountains in the distance as the golden light of daybreak lit the blossoms wonderfully.
