I captured this osprey flying over my head late on a spring morning at Baum Lake in Shasta County, Calfornia, USA. It shot me a bit of a glance as it flew over on its quest for a trout lunch.

Ospreys are probably my favorite raptor. I have spent many hours watching them ply their craft of catching fish in the various lakes I visit. To see one hover for a bit, then suddenly plummet straight down at a very high speed, spash in to the water, and fly away with a fish expertly turned lengthwise so it’s more aerodynamic in flight is something every nature lover should experience.

I cropped this image to a 4x5 (8X10) aspect ratio as it seems to fit the bird’s position quite well.
