Description
This Bell UH-1 “Huey” helicopter is one of several retired military aircraft on display outside the small Susanville Municipal airport in Lassen County California, USA. I captured the image using a modified camera and an 830 nanometer infrared filter so no visible light was used to create the image.
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois first flew in 1956 and was the first turbine powered helicopter to see service for the United States military. It first saw combat operations in the early 1960’s in the Vietnam conflict and evolved into numerous variants, many of which still see service around the world to this day.
