Description
This image captures my favorite old barn near my home in Lassen County California. I captured the image using a modified camera and an 830 nanometer infrared filter which essentially blocks out all visible light and only allows light from the near infrared part of the spectrum to hit the camera sensor. On this particular early March morning a pretty strong snow storm had just come through so Thompson Peak in the background was blanketed in fresh white and there were still a few striking clouds in the sky above the mountain. One of the things I have really been enjoying about black and white infrared photography is just how much lighter colored clouds can really stand out in the nearly black render of the blue sky. It has also allowed me to shoot some known compositions and present them with a bit of a different “feel.” Indeed, I captured almost this exact composition in color on a cold winter morning a couple years earlier.
