In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.

Artist's Description

Ranch Park on the edge of Susanville California is a wonderful 1100 acre park property managed mostly by Lassen County for which Susanville serves as the county seat (80 acres of the park is managed by BLM). The park consists of nearly 30 miles of trails that are off-limits to motorized travel. For this reason it is popular amongst dog walkers, mountain bikers, trail runners, and just generally folks wanting to get some fresh air! The park gets its name from the fact that much of it was once quite literally a working ranch and a few of the relics from those days are still there, rusting away in the fields. One of these relics is this old hay elevator that I thought produced a nice image when captured in infrared light on this sunny winter afternoon.

I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image. In 2018 I was able to retire from a professional career that provided a good livelihood for my family but, if I'm honest, left much to be...
