Wind pump for cattle watering on a ranch just south of Madeline, California with the sinking sun behind the blades.
Madeline is an unincorporated community in Lassen County, California, USA, approximately 45 miles north of Susanville on US-395. This is a very remote and rural part of northern California. The predominate industries here are cattle ranching and hay farming but there has been some mining, including gold mining in the region over the years.
I had monochrome on my mind when I saw the scene and in post production I opted for a toned, quazi-sepia, look. I think it pays homage to vintage images and works well for the scene.
First of all, thank you for stopping by my little gallery. Whether you're a fellow artist, potential buyer, or a casual observer, I'm glad something made you want to take a look at my work. I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image.
