I captured this image on a summer evening in 2006 at the Gallatin Marina at Eagle Lake in Lassen County, California, USA. Eagle Lake is just a few miles from my home and Iโve visited it frequently since the 1980โs, mostly for fishing, but quite often just to enjoy the scenery. In the years since this image was captured drought years have been more common than wet years. Today, the entire area seen here inside the breakwater is a field of grass with no sign of water. More pessimistic folks think water levels will never be high enough make the marina useable again but Iโve seen images from the 1950โs when the water was very nearly as low as it is today so I remain hopeful that I will see a scene like this again one day.
UPDATE 2023:
After a nice wet winter and spring the lake has bounced back a great deal. The marina canโt be a marina yet but there was actually a bit of water on the marina side of the breakwater on my last drive up that way. Hereโs to more gr...

I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember.
