I captured this shot in very late afternoon light near Redding California, USA near the end of a very spring-like day in January. These two pairs of mallard ducks had just lifted off from the small reservoir on a ranch owned by some family members, presumably having something to do with the hyperactive golden retriever my son and I had just brought to the pond for exercise. I like the way the low angle light, slightly behind and toward the front of the birds, played off their feathers as they lifted in to the blue.
