Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park is one of the most iconic and visited locations in the park. Formed from ancient Furnace Creek Lake sediments, the landscape has been sculpted over millennia into a dramatic, otherworldly terrain. This breathtaking overlook is a favorite for sunrise and sunset, offering sweeping views of rugged badlands, layered rock formations, and the distant mountains beyond.

On this particular morning, my wife and I set out early with high hopes for vibrant sunrise colors, as a thin veil of high clouds seemed perfectly positioned to reflect the morning light. However, upon arrival, we discovered that the only low clouds in sight were blocking the sun’s emergence over the eastern ridgeline, muting the sky’s colors.
