Artist's Description
This is a large rainbow trout being released back into Eagle Lake in Lassen County, California, USA, after it was caught by an angler.
Eagle Lake, with its catchment area of some 24,000 acres, is the second-largest natural lake that is entirely within the state of California, behind only Clear Lake in Lake County. The alkalinity of the ancient body of water is quite high, reducing the species of fish that can thrive in it. Famous for the large trout, the lake draws anglers from far and near, with the fall season generally providing the best opportunity to catch them as they chase the chubs into the shallows when the lake cools.
