Artist's Description

This little cabin sits in the Smoke Creek Desert in Lassen County, California, USA. I don’t know much about it; perhaps it was used by shepherds at some point. Sheep are still grazed in this area but these days the shepherds bring mobile housing that can be towed behind a pickup truck. I’ve also been told it could be an old cowboy “line shack.” In any event, someone was clearly doing the “tiny house” thing before it was trendy and on this particular spring day I liked the way it looked under the moody, somewhat ominous clouds as showers were in the forecast.

Of course, a scene like this just begs for a monochrome treatment, at least in my humble opinion.

I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image. In 2018 I was able to retire from a professional career that provided a good livelihood for my family but, if I'm honest, left much to be...
