I captured this frame of this big oak tree at the Sacramento Riverbend area in Tehama County California, just a few miles east of Red Bluff. I took an afternoon stroll with my son and was struck by the way the big leafless tree looked as it was backlit/silhouetted against the late day sun, showing off the interesting twists and turns of its branches.
The Sacramento Riverbend area in Tehama County, California, is a region located along the Sacramento River, known for its natural beauty and relatively rural, tranquil atmosphere. The “Mediterranean” type climate in that area makes for some very dramatic seasonal changes from very green in the late winter and spring to quite arid in summer and it can be quite interesting to check it out in all the different seasons so I try to get there a couple times a year.

I like this scene in color but I also feel that this monochrome version focuses the eye on the amazing textures in this big tree.
