Description
Golden Canyon in Death Valley National Park is a popular hike. It gets quite narrow in several places and widens out a bit in others. Hikers are treated with amazing views around every bend. There are several routes through the canyon to different destinations. On this January day, my wife and I hiked up on to Red Cathedral. From the Badwater side of the trail where we started this is somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 miles round trip depending on which site or signs you believe. My wife’s step counter puts it closer to the latter. The last little bit gets quite tight and slightly technical but is doable for most hikers – we’re certainly not mountaineers. This image is a stitched panoramic look at the view one is treated with looking back toward Badwater from the end of the trail. (full disclosure; the trail in the image isn’t the route we chose – there is a simpler and safer one out of the frame – the pictured one involves a spooky old ladder and some more technical scrambling at the other end)

I can imagine the solitude and serenity you could feel when sitting there breathing it all in. A lovely piece of photography, Mike.
