I captured this image at about 9 PM on a late May evening while I was camped at Wayfarer’s State Park in Bigfork, Montana. I liked the way the quiet dock extended out into Flathead Lake under the moody clouds.

Flathead Lake is a remnant of the massive Lake Missoula, a glacially dammed lake of the Earth’s most recent interglacial period. The lake is about 27 miles long and 15 miles wide at its widest, with depths to 370 feet. It is a popular destination for all manner of water sports enthusiasts as well as anglers, largely targeting the large Lake Trout (aka mackinaw) that live in the lake’s depths.
