Description
While walking with my wife at the Table Mountain Ecological Preserve in Butte County, California, on an April morning, I was drawn to the striking presence of this lone oak tree standing gracefully on the hillside. The foreground, adorned with rugged basalt rocks and a vibrant carpet of yellow and purple wildflowers, added depth and texture to the serene landscape.
According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, “The approximately 3,300-acre North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve is an elevated basalt mesa with beautiful vistas of spring wildflowers, waterfalls, lava outcrops, and a rare type of vernal pool, called Northern Basalt Flow Vernal Pools.” Despite the distance from my home—especially with the frequent closures of California State Route 70—I am eager to return and explore more of this breathtaking reserve, particularly in the springtime.
