Description
The Susan River runs approximately 67 miles from its headwaters at Caribou Lake east of Mount Lassen through Susanville to Honey Lake in Lassen County, California, USA. It descends over 2500 feet in the process from approximately 6500 feet down to just below 4000 feet in elevation. In addition to providing habitat for a plethora of wildlife species, it is popular for recreational activities such as fishing and hiking, the latter aided by the Bizz Johnson Trail which is part of the Rails To Trails networks which utilizes defunct railroad grades for walking trails.
I captured this image just above Susanville from atop a tall precipice known as Pigeon Cliff on an autumn afternoon looking upstream at the river flowing through what is known as the Susanville Canyon (or Susan River Canyon). This area has a great many deciduous trees and bushes and the fall color can be brilliant at times.
