Description
I always tell myself to never leave the house without a camera. More often than not when the purpose of leaving isn’t specifically photography I forget. However, on this day I actually remembered to grab one on the way out to the store. My full spectrum camera and all its filters reside in a very small and light carry case so there really is no excuse not to grab it and it is very versatile so it will handle a wide variety of shooting scenarios.
On this spring day during the early afternoon I noticed some nice puffy white clouds in the sky. These conditions always get me thinking about infrared (IR) shooting. This old house is one of the first things I ever shot upon getting the full spectrum modification done. The first time I shot it in black and white IR on a day with no clouds and when the tree was leafless in winter. That image has its merits; it definitely looks a bit more eerie, but I have wanted a shot with leaves on the tree as foliage really reflects near IR light (especially in spring when the leaves are nice and filled with chlorophyll ). Therefore, I took a quick detour on the way home from the store and grabbed a few frames.
This image was captured with the 590 nanometer filter which allows a mix of visible (from yellows through oranges and reds) and near IR light to pass through. This allows production of "false color" images like this after some post production work such as swapping the red and blue color channels to turn the sky back to a more natural blue instead of the crazy red appearance it has straight out of the camera. The look doesn’t work for everyone or every subject but I think it works well here and hope others do as well.

Intriguing filtering and processing effect Mike! The purity of the clouds and clean blue sky create an interesting juxtaposition to stark brush and abandoned house.

Mike! This is one strange and awesome capture and image! Your 'false color' is absolutely brilliant, and I'm not sure I understand how you did it, but wow I love it! Fascinating and hard to stop viewing. I am glad I came across this, but I am trying to find your newest images and can't. Sorry about that.
