This moody black & white rendering captures the bridge over Hat Creek in Shasta County, California, on a rainy September evening. The original plan was to photograph a glowing sunset, but the thickening cloud cover had other ideas. Instead, I hiked to the bridge as rain began to fall, embracing the opportunity for long-exposure photography. Each shot required careful lens-wiping and shielding, but the results created a misty, ethereal atmosphere. The interplay of reflections, the bridge’s structure, and the dramatic sky made for a compelling monochrome image.

Hat Creek’s nearby sport trout fishing zone near the Hat #2 Powerhouse is highly regarded among anglers. Known for its crystal-clear spring-fed waters, this stretch is home to wild rainbow and brown trout, attracting both fly fishers and conventional anglers.
