Artist's Description
On this April afternoon, I watched a number of thunderstorms move through our area here in the Lassen County high desert in northeastern California. I figured late afternoon would offer a good opportunity for a rainbow out in the Smoke Creek area, which is still quite green in April and just a few miles to the north of my home base. When I got there, I realized the storms hadn’t hit right for that but had a wonderful afternoon in the desert. On the way home, though, I drove through a raging wet thunderstorm as the sun was about an hour from setting. I knew after I drove out of it that conditions would be very good for a rainbow to the east, so I turned on a country road that runs north/south. It didn’t take long before my theory was proven sound, and this beauty was showing to the west of a marshy area near, but not quite in, the Fleming Unit, which is a national wildlife area.
