Description
The almost full “strawberry” moon of 2022 framed atop my favorite ratty old tree in Lassen County. This tree sits next to an old cabin that's crumbling and has lost its roof on a big ranch in the Willow Creek Valley. I took the shot from the adjacent Willow Creek Wildlife area with my camera tripod extended as high as it'll go, which is above my head, to get over the ranch's fence At about 4 o'clock to the moon is a nest belonging to some kind of raptor, I suspect a red tailed hawk, but I'm not sure. I've heard it but never gotten a clear look at it. I didn't even notice when I took the shot but the "homeowner" is sitting on one of the lower left branches. Even at 100 percent on my 27" monitor I still can't verify the species though.

love the ratty poor old tree. It looks like someone is chopping it??

Thank you! I think it's just a ratty old Cottonwood...there's a falling down cabin just out of the frame to the left so the tree was probably planted by whoever built the cabin at some point way back when....fairly common around here to find ruins and neglected trees next to each other...I have a picture what's left of the building AND the tree somewhere around there...lol
