Artist's Description
While paddling my kayak in Baum Lake (Shasta County, California, USA), I spotted this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) standing proud and looking rather regal in the warm late afternoon light amid a large patch of dry teasel. My low vantage point, sitting right on the water, coupled with the slightly elevated bank, added to the birdโs proud appearanceโat least in my humble opinion.
