Description

While paddling my kayak in Baum Lake (Shasta County, California, USA), I spotted this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) standing proud and looking rather regal in the warm late afternoon light amid a large patch of dry teasel. My low vantage point, sitting right on the water, coupled with the slightly elevated bank, added to the bird’s proud appearance—at least in my humble opinion.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘴, 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘥𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦. 𝘐𝘵 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤, 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴, 𝘤𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘴, 𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴. 𝘈 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘢𝘶𝘮 𝘓𝘢𝘬𝘦.
