Description
While my wife and I awaited the departure of our whale watching boat in the Monterrey California harbor, I watched a little game of “king of the mountain” taking place between at least 3 California sea lions. In this case the “mountain” was a large mooring buoy. As our boat departed I grabbed this shot of the current “king” keeping a close eye on a would-be “de-throner,” and looking quite proud of him/herself. Just out of the frame on the other side of the buoy another of the large mischievous aquatic mammals was in the process of a flanking maneuver which resulted in yet another change of ownership a few seconds after this frame.
