Description
I really enjoy the dramatic black and white look that can be achieved by capturing photos in the infrared part of the spectrum. This 830 nanometer image was captured on Pine Creek in Lassen County, California just above Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake is a large endorheic lake (it has no outflow and only loses water from evaporation or percolation). Pine Creek, with its headwaters several miles upstream of this location, is the lake’s only significant tributary and only runs seasonally during spring snow melt. Recent drought years have resulted in very short running periods and the lake dropping significantly. Fortunately, the 2022-2023 winter was a very wet in this region and the lake has rebounded some and, as of mid-April 2023 Pine Creek was still flowing wonderfully.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
