Description
With an average wingspan of up to 10 feet, the American white pelican is second only to the California Condor in that department amongst north American birds. In the “faces only a mother could love” category, I rate it a draw between the two.
I caught this goofy lookin’ critter taking to the air and looking a bit like a feathered version of Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose a on a July evening near the Gallatin boat ramp at Eagle Lake (Lassen County California) in some pretty nice late afternoon light.
