Wonderful capture. Glad he let you just walk away.

Mike Lee replied:

Thank you, Sharon! Black bears aren't much of a threat unless you corner one or get too close to a sow and cubs.

Artist's Description

Shot of a black bear in Lassen Volcanic National Park. The majestic creature was absolutely laying waste to a rotting dead lodgepole, presumably looking for grubs and termites. This is one of the rare occasions I actually saw a bear before it saw me (I've seen alot of bear rumps running across meadows over the years). After grabbing a shot, I walked away and let the wonderful creature resume its meal. I'll also post this image in a 4X5 aspect, suitable for a more common 8X10 print, in addition to this square aspect version.Honored with features:Images that Excite you 4/8/20Wildlife One a Day 4/17/20Animal Photographs 11/4/20

About Mike Lee

Mike Lee

First of all, thank you for stopping by my little gallery. Whether you're a fellow artist, potential buyer, or a casual observer, I'm glad something made you want to take a look at my work. I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image. In 2018 I was able to retire from a professional career that provided a good livelihood for my family but, if I'm honest, left much to be...
