Folks who’ve spent any time around Chester, California will recognize the Olsen Barn immediately as it’s a bit of a local icon. It sits in a 100+ acre meadow nestled between the North Fork of the Feather River and Lake Almanor. Some time back, the land was purchased by the Feather River Land Trust and, thanks to a very successful fundraising campaign, some restoration work was completed and the area serves as a publicly accessible nature preserve and historical site.

I confess that around 9:15pm on this particular night was the first time I’d ever actually walked out to this wonderful old structure, even though I’ve driven by it scores of times and always thought I needed to photograph it. I suppose that shooting it under the core of our little galaxy is a good place to start.
