Madeline is an unincorporated community in Lassen County, California, USA, approximately 45 miles north of Susanville on US-395. This is a very remote and rural part of northern California. The predominate industries here are cattle ranching and hay farming but there has been some mining, including gold mining in the region over the years.

I had monochrome on my mind when I saw the scene. This is a more traditional black and white version of the image. I also have a brown toned quazi sepia version of the same image available.

I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field).
