Artist's Description
This image captures the beautiful Old Cottonwood Church near Havre, Montana. I was in a very emotional state when I captured the image, as an hour or so earlier Iโd spread my motherโs ashes on the bank of the Milk River, which she always had an affinity for. I initially drove right by the wonderful old structure, not really in the mood to do any photography at the time. I certainly noticed it though, standing there in some pretty nice mid-morning light, and a mile up the road reminded myself that I wouldnโt likely be back any time soon. Plus, my mom, a photographic hobbyist herself, would have wanted me to grab an image, so I made a U-turn.
The Montana prairie is definitely somewhere Iโd like to get back to one day, and if I ever do, Iโll have to check in and see if this beautiful piece of history still stands.
I also have a black and white version of this image available elsewhere in my gallery.

About Mike Lee

Hello, my name is Mike Lee, and I am a landscape and nature photographer based in Janesville, California. Photography has been a passion of mine for many years, and since retiring from my first career in 2018 I've decided to make photographic art that all-too-important next chapter. I've always had an appreciation for nature, and living in such a beautiful and diverse area has provided me with endless inspiration. From the towering Sierra Nevada mountains to the serene valleys and forests, I find myself constantly in awe of the world around me. My photography is an attempt to preserve and share these...
