This image features Chaos Crags in Lassen Volcanic National Park across a frozen-over Reflection Lake just after a February sunrise.
Chaos Crags is a dacite lava dome just north of Mount Lassen. It is one of several such domes in the area that were formed during eruptive activity approximately 1000 years ago.
Mount Lassen remains a very active volcano and evidence of this can be seen in numerous places around the park. It is definitely a wondrous place to visit.
Reflection Lake sits just inside the north entrance to the park, across State Route 89 from Manzanita Lake. When it is thawed and the weather is calm both Lassen Peak and Chaos Crags are wonderfully reflected in the water, hence its name. However I thought the warm glow coming off the ice gave this image a nice feel as well.
