I find the male mountain bluebird (Sialia currucoides) to be quite striking. The western bluebird males I commonly see in a couple of birdhouses at my home are actually more colorful overall with their rusty orange-red breast and vivid blue back and wings. However, the mountain bluebird's lighter, somewhat softer blue tones are quite beautiful in their own right, at least to my eyes. Plus, I don't see them around home (although several bird books I've perused say it's possible I could). Therefore, they have the uniqueness factor going for them.

All around the marsh at Kyburz Flat in Sierra County California there are birdhouses on various posts. They're all different and some are fancier than others. This leads me to think there was a scout or school project involved at some point in their construction.
