Artist's Description

Late on a September afternoon I found Lake Helen in my “home” national park (Lassen Volcanic) absolutely deserted. This spot can be very crowded at times so I felt it mandatory to pull over and enjoy the quiet (and, of course, grab a frame). Being up so close to the highway summit and fairly exposed, there’s almost always some wind to make the water at least a bit ripply. This day was no exception but the ripples weren’t more than I could flatten out with a minute and a half long exposure. What can I say? I just have a thing for lake reflections. In this case, the reflection is that of Mount Lassen (or Lassen Peak), a nearly 10,500 foot high lava dome volcano that’s very much alive, last erupting in 1915 and still showing its power in numerous places around the park in the form of several hot springs, fumarole’s, and a geyser or two.

First of all, thank you for stopping by my little gallery. Whether you're a fellow artist, potential buyer, or a casual observer, I'm glad something made you want to take a look at my work. I've appreciated fine photography of all types for as long as I remember. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image. In 2018 I was able to retire from a professional career that provided a good livelihood for my family but, if I'm honest, left much to be...
