Description
When I woke up at Lake Britton in Shasta County, California, on a crisp spring Sunday morning, the first thing I noticed was the chill in the air—just 36 degrees Fahrenheit. From the previous day's fishing trip, I knew the lake surface was still above 60 degrees, a perfect recipe for morning fog. As I took a stroll from Dusty Campground, looking toward the confluence of the Pit River and Hat Creek, the mist rising above the water created an ethereal, dreamlike scene. The landscape was naturally subdued in tone, so I embraced its monochromatic beauty by processing this image in black and white.
Nestled in Northern California, Lake Britton is a hidden gem known for its clear waters, scenic shorelines, and excellent fishing. Created by the Pit 3 Dam in the 1920s, it provides hydroelectric power and recreational opportunities. The lake is famous for its diverse wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, and river otters. Fans of classic films might recognize it as the location of the famous bridge scene in Stand by Me (1986). With its mix of rugged natural beauty and peaceful waters, it’s a favorite spot for kayakers, anglers, and campers seeking solitude in the Shasta-Trinity region.
