Artist's Description
The Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley National Park are a popular tourist stop. Indeed, on this trip we passed by several times and saw numerous hikers throughout the sandy mounds. However, on this particular morning the wind was blowing hard as an overnight storm was moving out of the area. This had the dust kicked up significantly across the entire valley, especially the dunes. The scene looked rather surreal through a telephoto lens. The long focal length “compressed” the distant snow capped mountains closer to the dunes and the dust provided and almost foggy mood, filtering the late morning light and softening the entire scene.
About Mike Lee

First of all, thank you for stopping by my little gallery. Whether you're a fellow artist, potential buyer, or a casual observer, I'm glad something made you want to take a look at my work. I suspect it is at least partially hereditary as my parents met while each was involved in photographic pursuits for the US Navy (mom in the darkroom and dad in the field). Since my first instant film camera as an adolescent, I've always had a passion for photography and a real appreciation for what goes in to making a truly fine image. In 2018 I was able to retire from a professional career that provided a good livelihood for my family but, if I'm honest, left much to be...

Wow, that dust lends this scene such a mysterious look blanketing those hills to where they can barely be seen. Really nice work!

Thank you very much, William!
