Artist's Description
Danteās View, named for Dante Alighieri, author of Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy), is one of the most popular viewpoints in Death Valley National Park. This spectacular overlook provides a breathtaking vista of Badwater Basināthe lowest point in the continental United Statesāthe Panamint Mountains, and the vast desert landscape beyond.
The well-built viewing area includes several informative signs that highlight the parkās unique geological and environmental features. I was particularly drawn to the graceful curves of the stone wall, which create a natural leading line toward the warmly lit clouds in the late afternoon light on this January day.
Rest assured, while the golden tones of the setting sun cast a warm glow over the scene, the air temperature was anything but warm! If you visit Danteās View in the winter months, be sure to dress accordingly, as the high elevation can bring surprisingly chilly conditions.
