Asilomar State Beach, located on the Monterey Peninsula in Pacific Grove, California, is a breathtaking stretch of coastline where rugged beauty meets quiet reflection. The name "Asilomar" is derived from Spanish, meaning “refuge by the sea,” and that’s exactly what this scenic spot offers—a peaceful haven for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a bit of coastal magic.

Part of the larger Asilomar State Marine Reserve, the area protects diverse marine life and vibrant tide pools teeming with anemones, crabs, and sea stars. Offshore, sea otters and harbor seals often make appearances, adding to the charm. Inland, the Asilomar Dunes Preserve harbors rare plant species and offers interpretive boardwalks through a restored dune ecosystem.

Originally developed as a retreat center for the YWCA in the early 20th century, much of the architecture on site was designed by famed Arts and Crafts architect Julia Morgan—who also designed Hearst Castle. Today, the beach and surrounding parklands offer stunning sunset views, tide pooling, birdwatching, and a meditative escape from the bustle of nearby tourist spots like Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
