I always tell myself that I'm never going to leave the house with a camera and I have to admit that about 80% of the time I'm several miles up the road WITHOUT a camera before I remember that I said that. On this morning I actually remembered to put some gear in the car when my wife and I headed out. Near an unincorporated community known as Johnstonville we spotted this fella standing in a field with some does in nice warm morning light. He's definitely the biggest mule deer buck I've seen in a while. Folks who hunt them talk about the "30 inch" club, referring to bucks with antlers more than 30 inches across (I think that refers to inside spread but I'm not a deer hunter). An adult mule deer buck's ears will be around 24" across when they're spread out for listening.
Therefore, I think it's a pretty safe bet this fella makes that 30 inch club.
